We've been so busy working away that we have neglected this blog for a while - no longer! Listen in on WAMC about how the City of Springfield and Ener-G-save work together to build on the success the city has had in reducing its energy use and saving millions of dollars. Mayor Sarno declared October energy efficiency month and with his support Ener-G-save helped more than 100 residents just last month to access energy efficiency programs.

Cooler Communities in Action

This was fun! Here is a look at Agawam Cooler Community Challenge and Cooler Communities Berkshires! The passion of the students and of the organizers makes this program so worthwhile. "This brings the whole community together around this really important topic", said Mayor Sapelli from Agawam. And that is the whole idea. Saving energy is fun and when it's done as a community the impact multiplies. It's a win-win, as Sheila Hoffman, the Assitant Superintendent says. And we are thrilled to be expanding it to more communities in the next school year. Interested? Contact: education@ulriken.sg-host.com

Results!

Results! This past April, Ener-G-Save and many partners came together in Pittsfield MA to host the 2019 Berkshire Earth Expo. Then, in May, the Agawam Cooler Community Challenge followed. We are really excited to be announcing the results: Of the roughly 700 visitors who came to the events, a total of 191 filled out valid "carbon trackers" to monitor how their homes and lifestyles contributed to the towns overall carbon output and to pledge actions they would take to reduce energy waste. The options ranged from auditing and weatherizing a home to save on heating and cooling to joining a…

The expo was a great success, boasting a turnout of about 350 people, with 117 visitors pledging to take one or…

ener-G-save is entering its second year….

Agawam, August 21st, 2018 Ener-G-save, a project funded by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, is entering its second year of community outreach to assist homeowners in Pioneer Valley in taking advantage of generous utility programs for energy efficiency. Massachusetts is a leader in the nation as far as energy efficiency is concerned; yet there remains a lot to be done. “Since we all pay for the utilities’ energy efficiency programs through a surcharge on our bills, it only makes sense to utilize them to their fullest extent for each and every eligible home,” says Susan Olshuff, who will be managing…

The Mystery of Energy Efficiency

Would you put money into a savings account and never withdraw it? That’s actually similar to what most Massachusetts utility customers end up doing when it comes to paying their electricity bill. Here is the scoop: Not that long ago, I was having my home insulated and it seemed miraculous that out of a $5,000 job, all I had to pay was less than $1100.  On top of that, I got about 20 free LED bulbs that are reducing my electricity bill noticeably. I found myself marveling about these incentives to a friend: “The utility companies seem to be shelling…

Ready for winter?

Feeling the chill in the air? Putting away the lawn furniture? Is your home ready for winter? As the days get shorter, we might find ourselves thinking about the coming cold months, dreading that drafty bathroom, worrying about high energy bills, and wondering what all that energy usage is doing to the planet. We know we should do something like get an energy audit, but we also have to get the kids new school shoes, put the kiddie pool away, and get the snow blower into the repair shop. Before we know it, autumn leaves will have turned into winter…
